Our history
The company was founded on December 11, 1969. By the hands of Mr. Lopes, Mr. Lemos, Mr. Leite and Mr. Manuel Guimarães. With only 10 employees, everyone's dream and ambition to produce and sell quality shoes was high.
However, four years after it was founded, the previous founders began to experience some difficulties in finding customers and managing the company financially. Precisely 15 days before the remarkable and historic April 25, 1974 (Carnation Revolution), Mr. Alberto Cunha saw in the company Calçados Tulipa Negra, S.A., the opportunity to continue his legacy begun in 1962, where he built his first company Calçados Dura with his own hands, from the granting of the structures, to its organizational chart, production management and client portfolio.
Mr. Alberto Cunha's acquisition of Calçados Tulipa Negra, S.A. was the solution he found to increase production capacity. The capacity of his first company was no longer sufficient to respond to the good service and “savoir faire” for the volume of business he had created. After 20 years of producing solely and exclusively for the Portuguese market, Calçados Tulipa Negra, S.A. began to expand and opened doors to the international market. This expansion gave the company the growth to expand production and the conditions to be able to meet the demands of the markets it is currently in.
For many years, until June 28, 2000, Mr. Alberto Cunha decided to retire from the company, having prepared his sons Carlos Alberto Cunha, Dr. Graça Vieira and Milton Cunha to get to know the company's philosophy and standards, from production to the relationship with its employees. This is one of the strongest reasons why the company still works with the same rigor and determination today.

Mr. Alberto Cunha was the founder of Calçados Tulipa Negra, S.A. in 1969. He created the company with the dream of being able to build and sell quality footwear. He worked in his company until he retired in 2000 and passed on his legacy to his children.
